The name Phil Kent is familiar to most who have fought in the trenches of America’s culture war for the past several years. Having worked as a military policeman, a writer, a newspaper editor, and a press secretary (for the late Sen. Strom Thurmond), Kent was president of the well-known Southeastern Legal Foundation, an Atlanta-based constitutional public policy law firm, from 2001 to 2003, where he helped score victories against affirmative action and other liberal pet projects, and where he assisted in the omnibus federal lawsuit to overturn the McCain-Feingold campaign finance act. Now the president of Phil Kent Consulting, Inc., the executive director of the American Immigration Control Foundation, and the national spokesman for Americans for Immigration Control – among other projects – he tirelessly to continue waging informational war on liberals everywhere, both in print and on the airwaves.

Read on...

In 2003, at the end of his tenure with SLF, Kent wrote the book – literally – on how conservatives can and should deal with, and respond to, the forces of liberalism around them. From race and big government to media bias, immigration, judicial activism, and beyond, Kent’s first book, The Dark Side of Liberalism: Unchaining the Truth, provided conservatives who are living their lives in the trenches of the ideological war to save America with facts, figures, and talking points through which to best express and reinforce their basic tenets of belief.

Given his prolific past on the front lines of the war against liberalism, it should come as no surprise that, of all people, it is Phil Kent who decided to wade into the muck that is the world of big-dollar, “charitable” foundations, and to slog through their statements, donations, and expenditures, committing himself to the task of exposing their clandestine attempts to reshape America’s culture into a very different image from the Constitution-based Republic in which we currently live.

With the release of his latest book, Foundations of Betrayal: How the Liberal $uper-Rich Undermine America, the fruits of his labors are now available to the public – and there is quite a story to tell. With Foundations of Betrayal, Kent “offers a fresh inside look at an overlooked enemy” which many Americans never even think of as such: the scores of multimillion-dollar, tax-exempt foundations which use charitable donations and selective reporting to hide their active opposition to free enterprise, to American values, to religion and morality, and even to America’s sovereignty.

The list of foundations on whose far-left machinations Kent shines a much-needed light on is long and distinguished. It includes such stalwarts as the Carnegie Group, the Turner Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, George Soros, and many, many others, including the Heinz Family Fund – which, according to Kent, is “dominated” by would-be First Lady Theresa Heinz Kerry. No big surprise there, then, that the Heinz Fund would make a list of organizations pushing a radically leftist agenda.

The Ford Foundation receives its own chapter, as Kent covers its activities from its 1936 incorporation on. Foundations of Betrayal re-traces the Foundation’s monetary footprints, covering its funding of pro-Communist organizations, including the 1954 establishment of the “Fund for the Republic,” which employed in its upper echelon a former head of the US Communist Party and a member of the National Lawyers Guild, which the Senate had described as the “foremost legal bulwark of the Communist Party.” Ford’s support of communist individuals also makes it into the book, including the 1967 lionizing of Ho Chi Minh, of whom the Foundation’s chairman of the board (after a visit to Ho’s North Vietnam) said, “I believe historically he will rank with Gandhi and it occurs to me that there is nobody else in the world today in any country who seems to provide a similar blend of spiritual and political power.”

Not content to settle only for past subversion, Kent delves deeper into the Ford Foundation’s more recent – and more extreme – anti-American and anti-Western dealings, shining light on the organization’s funding of the late Yasser Arafat’s Palestinian Fatah Party and to the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights – an organization whose “specialty is disrupting Israeli army anti-terrorism missions and lending material support…to Palestinian suicide bombers.”

Foundations of Betrayal not only covers the history, founding, and financial status of these big-dollar, ultra-liberal foundations, but also provides exposes on several of the politically active and culturally subversive groups to whom the foundations contribute. Included in these are “environmental” groups like the Wildlands Conservancy, the Sierra Club, the Rainforest Action Network, and Environmentalists Against War (EAW), an organization which protests the Iraq war (because “war destroys wildlife and contaminates air and water”) and “domestic attacks on immigrants,” and whose stated position on the U.S. is that it must “give up its position as the world’s reigning superpower” (no word is supplied on just how America is supposed to do that). Thanks to Kent and Foundations of Betrayal, the average American now has access – without poring over documents or spending long nights going through tax forms – that EAW’s primary supporters are the Ford Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Rockefeller Family Fund, the Heinz Family Fund, and the Turner Foundation.

“Wealth controls culture,” as the saying goes, and in Foundations of Betrayal Phil Kent has compiled a roster of those who are doing their best to control ours. With his latest book, Kent has again provided an invaluable service to all Americans who seek to preserve and protect their nation’s culture. Insight into the agenda and the tactics of the big-dollar radical left is a must for all who wish to fight such subversion and, thanks to Phil Kent’s Herculean effort, the hard part has already been done, and the result is neatly and manageably packaged in his must-read book.
